Jaipur, 11 November 2025: In a startling incident on Tuesday morning in the Sodala area of Jaipur, a garbage-hauling dumper belonging to the Jaipur Municipal Corporation became suspended some 15 feet above ground after its rear body accidentally caught on an elevated fly-over pillar.

The incident occurred around 11:25 a.m. near the Yadav petrol pump junction when the dumper was en route from Purani Chungi towards Sodala Chowk. Eyewitnesses report that due to a technical malfunction, the hydraulic rear body of the vehicle unexpectedly lifted, causing the rear of the dumper to strike and catch on the underside of the elevated road structure. The driver, identified as Harkesh, jumped to safety as the cabin hung precariously in the air.
Traffic on Ajmer Road was brought to a standstill for several hours as police and civic teams diverted vehicles and deployed a crane to safely lower and remove the stranded vehicle. No serious injuries were reported; however, the incident has raised serious questions about vehicle maintenance and safety protocols within the municipal fleet.
Local residents and commuters expressed alarm at how a routine operation of garbage collection turned into a high-risk scenario. “It could have been a major disaster if the dumper had overturned or fallen onto passing traffic below,” remarked one on-looker. The municipal corporation has launched an internal review to inspect hydraulic systems and machinery in all service vehicles.
The near-miss highlights wider concerns over urban road safety and infrastructure maintenance in Jaipur. Civic safety experts say such incidents, though lucky to avoid injury, are warning signs that preventive oversight and maintenance regimes need reinforcement, especially in congested city zones where elevated roads and narrow lanes intersect.
Authorities have asked the vehicle contractor to provide a detailed report on the malfunction and have instructed the transport wing to ground similar dumpers until safety checks are completed.
