Jaipur, 16 November: A sharp drop in minimum temperatures across Rajasthan has sent waves of chill through the region, with Fatehpur in the Shekhawati belt registering a bone-chilling 5.0 °C the lowest in the state so far.
In the state capital, Jaipur recorded a season-low morning temperature of 12.4 °C, nearly 2.5 °C below the normal minimum. Clear skies and dry northerly winds descending from the snow-covered Himalayas have been credited with the rapid fall.
Numerous districts reported steep dips: Sikar at 5.4 °C, Nagaur 6.1 °C, Dausa & Lunkaransar 6.9 °C, Churu 7.9 °C, Karauli 8.2 °C, Alwar 8.4 °C, Pilani 8.5 °C and Jalore & Vanasthali 8.9 °C each.
In response, the India Meteorological Department (Jaipur office) has issued a yellow alert for cold-weather conditions specifically for districts including Sikar and Jhunjhunu until November 15, while cautioning that the cold spell could spread further.
Residents of Jaipur’s parks and jogging tracks stayed indoors as the morning fog and chill overtook the city’s open spaces, signalling the early onset of winter in the plains of Rajasthan.
Precautions recommended:
- Wear appropriate warm clothing, especially early morning and late night.
- Children, the elderly and those with health issues should limit extended outdoor exposure.
- Stay alert for local meteorological updates and any further alerts for cold wave or fog.
- Morning traffic visibility may be affected by fog in low-lying areas drivers should take caution.
With the cold wave likely to intensify in the next few days, the state’s weather agencies advise the public to prepare for continued chilly conditions and monitor forecast updates for any escalation.
