Jaipur, 1 December: A horrific incident in a village near Jaipur has left a couple fighting for their lives after they were allegedly set on fire by relatives over their relationship. The couple, a 40-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman sustained severe burn injuries and are currently being treated at SMS Hospital.
What Happened
- The incident took place late Friday night in Badolav village under the jurisdiction of Mokhampura police station, Dudu tehsil about an hour southwest of Jaipur.
- According to the FIR lodged by the male victim, both had been in a relationship. Around midnight, two men identified as male relatives of the woman allegedly broke into the farm hut where the couple were meeting, doused them with petrol, and set them ablaze. The couple ran out screaming, only to collapse after suffering grievous injuries.
- Villagers rushed to help and extinguished the flames. Both victims were first taken to a local community health centre and later referred to SMS Hospital due to the severity of their burns.
Condition of Victims
Medical officials report that the man has suffered burns over approximately 70 % of his body, while the woman has about 45–50 % burn injuries. Both remain in critical condition under intensive burn treatment.
Arrests and Investigation
Law enforcement acted swiftly. Two men identified as Birdi Chand Gurjar (57) and Ganesh Gurjar (41) have been detained on suspicion of carrying out the attack. They are said to be relatives of the woman.
Police have registered an FIR under sections that cover attempted murder, grievous hurt by dangerous means, and criminal conspiracy. Forensics and investigative teams are collecting evidence from the crime scene and questioning witnesses.
Alleged Motive: Relationship & Family Feud
Preliminary investigation suggests the motive was a longstanding family feud and disapproval of the couple’s relationship. The woman was a widow and the man was married; their relationship reportedly triggered anger and resentment among relatives, leading to the brutal attack.
