Jaipur, 2 Dec 2025: A tragic incident in a village near Jaipur has left one young man dead and his partner critically injured after they were allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire by family members. The accused reportedly angered by suspicion of “improper relationship” have been arrested.
At around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, in a makeshift hut in Bandolav village (under Mokhampura Police Station), two persons a youth and a woman were sleeping when two accused individuals reportedly poured petrol over them and set them ablaze.
The youth, identified as Kailash Gurjar, suffered burns over more than 60% of his body and was admitted to SMS Hospital in Jaipur. Early on Tuesday (December 2), Kailash succumbed to his injuries. His partner, Soni Devi, remains under treatment in the hospital’s burn ward with critical injuries.
The local police have registered a murder case and taken the accused Birdi Chand and Ganesh into custody. They were presented before a magistrate yesterday and remanded to one-day police custody; their next hearing is scheduled shortly.
The horrifying episode has sparked outrage in the village and surrounding areas. Police say the alleged motive for the crime was suspicion over a romantic relationship between the victims highlighting a disturbing instance of “honour violence.” Investigations are ongoing, and further charges may follow.
