Jaipur, 13 Dec 2025: At least 12 police personnel posted at the Rajasthan Police Headquarters (PHQ) were taken ill on Friday evening after consuming gajar ka halwa from a well-known local sweet shop. The incident has triggered a food-safety alert in the city, prompting officials to seal the shop and launch an investigation into suspected food poisoning.
According to sources, the halwa was ordered for routine refreshments at the PHQ canteen. Shortly after eating it, several officers experienced symptoms including vomiting, stomach ache, dizziness and diarrhea. The affected personnel were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Doctors confirmed that all of them are now in stable condition, though tests are being conducted to determine the exact cause of contamination.
Following multiple complaints, a joint team of Food Safety officers and Jaipur Police inspected the sweet shop from where the halwa had been purchased. During the inspection, alleged lapses in hygiene and storage were found, after which the establishment identified as Shankar Mishthan Bhandar was immediately sealed for violation of food safety norms.
Officials collected samples of the halwa and other food items for laboratory examination. Results are expected within 48 hours.
Senior officers at PHQ have taken a serious view of the incident. “Strict action will be taken against those responsible for compromising food quality,” an official said, adding that all vendors supplying food products to PHQ will now undergo renewed verification.
The incident has raised concerns about festive-season food safety, with authorities urging citizens to avoid purchasing sweets from shops where hygiene or storage quality appears questionable.
Investigations are ongoing and further action will be taken once lab reports confirm the source of contamination.
