Dense Fog Engulfs Jaipur, Grounds Flights and Reduces Visibility to Near-Zero

Jaipur, 23 Dec 2025: A blanket of dense fog has enveloped Jaipur and large parts of Rajasthan, sharply reducing visibility to as little as 10 metres in some areas and disrupting both air and road transport, according to meteorological and local reports.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a dense fog alert for multiple districts including Jaipur, as cold, still conditions persist amid the winter season. Temperatures are also expected to continue dropping over the next 48 hours.

Residents in Jaipur and neighbouring regions were seen seeking warmth around bonfires on Monday morning as the thick fog brought an intense chill and severely impaired day-to-day visibility.

Major Transport Disruptions

Flight operations at Jaipur International Airport and across the northern region have been severely affected. Earlier this week, several flights bound for Delhi and other destinations were diverted or delayed due to poor visibility, with passengers reporting hours-long waits on aircraft before take-off or after landing.

Air traffic congestion resulting from fog at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) also impacted Jaipur flight schedules, leading to a backlog of incoming and outgoing services.

Across northern India, airlines have been forcing flight cancellations and activating contingency plans as fog conditions ground operations and force the use of low-visibility navigation procedures.

Weather and Public Safety Outlook

IMD forecasts indicate that foggy conditions will persist through the coming days, particularly in the early mornings and late evenings, creating continued challenges for commuters and travellers alike.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on highways and regional roads due to the reduced visibility and to use fog lights when driving. Local transport agencies are also advising passengers to check for updates before commencing travel by air or rail.

With minimum temperatures continuing to drop across the state, the combination of severe cold and dense fog is expected to make outdoor conditions particularly harsh, especially before sunrise.
