Dense Fog in Jaipur Disrupts Train Services, Causes Multiple Delays

Jaipur, 24 Dec 2025: Dense winter fog that has engulfed Jaipur and large parts of northern India over the past several days continues to disrupt train operations, causing delays and inconvenience for rail passengers in and out of the Pink City.

Rail services on key routes, especially on the Delhi–Jaipur line, have been affected as visibility dropped sharply in the early morning and late evening hours, forcing railway authorities to enforce strict safety protocols. The Delhi–Jaipur section, a busy corridor with around 30 trains daily connecting Jaipur to the national capital, has seen trains running behind schedule as reduced visibility prevents normal speeds.

Delays and Safety Measures

Although specific figures for Jaipur in this spell are still being compiled, similar fog conditions in the region previously saw dozens of trains delayed by several hours when low visibility forced trains to slow down and maintain larger gaps. In other parts of northern India under similar fog conditions, multiple trains including premium services like Vande Bharat and Rajdhani were reported to be delayed by up to 14 hours.

Railway officials explain that speed restrictions are imposed on services during dense fog, significantly extending travel times and causing downstream delays across the network. These restrictions are a safety precaution to prevent accidents when train drivers’ visibility is severely limited.

Passenger Impact

Commuters traveling from Jaipur have reported missed connections and longer transit times. Many passengers waiting at Jaipur Junction and other nearby stations are checking live train statuses through mobile apps and enquiry counters before departing for the station to avoid last-minute surprises.

Officials from North Western Railway urged passengers to verify schedules and train running status before planning journeys, especially in early morning hours when fog tends to be thickest. They also reiterated that safety remains the top priority, even if it results in longer journey times.

Weather Outlook

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued dense fog and cold day conditions for Rajasthan and neighboring northern states over the next few days, indicating that rail disruptions could persist. Travelers are advised to plan ahead and stay updated on the latest train running information from official railway sources.
