Jaipur Braces for Weather Turn: Clouds, Fog and Rain Alert as Western Disturbance Approaches

Jaipur, January 20, 2026: The weather in Jaipur has begun to shift, bringing cloudy skies, foggy conditions, and a fresh alert for rain as a new weather system is set to influence the region later this week.

On Monday, the pink city witnessed a thickening cloud cover in the afternoon, with the sun obscured and the usual winter chill persisting. Weather observers noted fluctuating temperatures across the state, with some parts experiencing mild warmth during the day and cold conditions later.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense to moderate fog over Jaipur and surrounding areas on January 20 and 21, which may significantly reduce visibility and impact road and rail travel.

Rain and Thunderstorm Alert from January 22–24

A strong western disturbance is expected to become active over northwest India beginning January 22, bringing the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across Jaipur and other divisions of Rajasthan, including Jodhpur, Bikaner, Shekhawati, and Bharatpur.

  • The IMD’s subdivision-wise warning indicates that January 22–23 may see thunderstorm activity with squalls and lightning in parts of West Rajasthan, including Jaipur’s region, as the system moves in.

Although the expected showers are not forecast as heavy, this bemetre rain (locally known as “mawath” – light to moderate rain) is likely to provide some respite to farmers and help winter crops. However, temperatures may dip again after the rainfall, potentially leading to “cold day” conditions.

Temperature Trends and Conditions

Recent meteorological data show Jaipur’s temperatures remaining in the typical winter range, with minimums around 9–13°C and daytime highs around 20–25°C.

Residents are advised to be prepared for rapid weather changes over the coming days, from foggy winter mornings to potentially rainy and windy conditions, and to check local forecasts before planning travel or outdoor activities.
