Jaipur, March 6, 2026: A Holi celebration at Manipal University in Jaipur turned into a scene of panic after a crane-like iron structure installed for a rain dance setup collapsed during the event, leaving around 20 students injured on Tuesday afternoon.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 1 PM on the university campus where students had gathered to celebrate Holi with music, colours, and a rain dance event. The setup included a large iron structure fitted with pipes to spray water over the crowd during the celebration.
Eyewitnesses said that the structure suddenly lost balance and crashed down onto students who were dancing beneath it, triggering chaos and panic at the venue. Many students suffered injuries in the collapse.
Emergency services were quickly alerted, and the injured students were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials confirmed that around 17 students were admitted for medical care, while three others received first aid at the campus medical facility and were later discharged.
Preliminary findings by the police suggest that the structure may have collapsed after several students climbed or hung onto the crane-like frame, causing it to lose balance under the excess weight.
Bagru police station officials reached the spot soon after the incident and launched an investigation to determine whether proper safety measures and permissions were in place for the event. Authorities said further action will be taken against the organisers if any negligence is found.
University authorities described the incident as unfortunate but confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening and that all students are currently safe after receiving treatment.
The accident has raised concerns over safety arrangements during large campus events, especially during festive celebrations where temporary structures are often used for entertainment setups.
