Jaipur, January 23, 2026: A shocking crime in Jaipur’s Shastri Nagar area has left the local community reeling after a man allegedly stabbed his widowed sister-in-law to death on Thursday evening following a dispute over a rejected marriage proposal.
According to police, the incident occurred around 7:30 PM in the Prem Colony area near a Shiva temple when Anil, identified as the deceased woman’s brother-in-law, confronted the victim, identified as Poonam (32), as she was returning home from work.
Brutal Attack After Argument
Anil and Poonam got into a heated exchange shortly before the attack. In a sudden act of violence, Anil allegedly pulled out a knife and delivered multiple stab wounds to Poonam, leaving her critically injured. Local residents rushed her to Kawantiyā Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Police say Poonam, a widow for the past several years, lived with her two young sons and supported her family by doing household work in nearby homes. She had repeatedly refused Anil’s marriage proposals, which police believe was the motive behind the fatal attack.
Swift Arrest and Ongoing Investigation
After the attack, Anil attempted to flee the scene on his motorcycle. However, within about an hour, Jaipur police located and detained him while he was heading towards the railway station. He is currently in custody and being questioned as part of the investigation.
The murder weapon is reportedly being recovered by investigators as part of the ongoing probe. Police have registered a case under relevant sections and are examining all aspects of the incident.
Community Reaction
News of the killing sparked outrage among Poonam’s relatives and neighbours, who gathered at the hospital demanding swift justice. Additional police forces were deployed to manage the situation. Local MLA Gopal Sharma also visited the family and assured them of stern action.
