Jaipur, 28 Dec 2025: A severe cold wave is sweeping across Rajasthan, affecting more than four major cities with plunging temperatures and dense fog that has disrupted daily life and travel in several districts, meteorologists and officials said on Sunday.
According to weather reports, Udaipur, Kota, Karauli, and several other regions recorded unusually low minimum temperatures overnight, with Karauli recording a frigid low of just 3.1°C, making it one of the coldest spots in the state. The cold conditions are being driven by a western disturbance coupled with calm winds and clear skies, typical of winter weather patterns that exacerbate chill in northern India.
Dense fog has further compounded the situation, significantly reducing visibility on highways and inter-city roads across the region. The foggy conditions have prompted traffic police to issue advisories for motorists to maintain caution, slow speeds, and use fog lights, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
In Udaipur and Kota, travelers and commuters reported slow-moving traffic and delays as visibility dropped to critical levels, disrupting both road and rail services in some areas. Local schools and outdoor vendors are also feeling the impact, with residents urged to take precautions, particularly for young children and the elderly who are more vulnerable to cold-related ailments.
Health officials have reiterated standard cold-weather warnings, advising people to dress in layers, avoid prolonged exposure to the cold, and take special care of infants and senior citizens. Increased cases of cough and cold symptoms have also been reported at local healthcare centers.
In Jaipur, while temperatures remain milder compared to the colder pockets of the state, the city has been experiencing early morning fog and a noticeable drop in night temperatures, contributing to the statewide chill. Residents have been sharing on social media their experiences of frost-like mornings and mist-covered landscapes.
Officials have advised travelers to check real-time weather and traffic updates before embarking on journeys, particularly on the Kota-Jaipur, Udaipur-Ahmedabad, and Jaipur–Kota corridors that have reported significant fog formation. Transport authorities are coordinating with meteorological departments to monitor conditions and manage disruptions.
With meteorological forecasts predicting the cold wave conditions to persist for the next few days, residents are being cautioned to stay updated on weather alerts and take appropriate precautions to stay safe and warm.
