Comprehensive Eye Tests for Government School Students to Begin in Jaipur in January

Jaipur, January 4, 2026: In a major move to improve student health and academic performance, authorities in Jaipur have announced a city-wide eye testing programme for students enrolled in government schools. The screening initiative is scheduled to take place throughout January 2026 and aims to detect vision problems early and ensure necessary interventions.

The programme has been launched under a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Rajasthan School Education Council and the Lions Club Jaipur Metro (LCJM). Trained professionals supported by leading eye hospitals will carry out the vision screenings at participating schools across the district.

Free Spectacles and Medical Support for Students

Officials said that any student found to have vision issues during the eye tests will be provided free spectacles. In cases where more serious problems are identified, arrangements have been made for further medical investigation and treatment referral. Local eye care specialists will assist with technical expertise and follow-up care to ensure comprehensive support.

A senior official from the education department highlighted the collaborative nature of the initiative, noting that the council will manage logistics such as permissions at district and block levels, cooperation from school managements, and availability of venues for the screenings.

Focus on Student Welfare and Data Security

In addition to health outcomes, organisers have emphasised the importance of student data protection as part of the programme. A joint monitoring committee will oversee implementation and submit quarterly progress reports to ensure transparency and effectiveness throughout the three-year agreement period.

This eye health initiative is part of broader efforts by the Rajasthan education system to integrate regular health check-ups into school routines, recognising that early detection and correction of vision issues can significantly enhance learning outcomes for children.

Parents and school officials have welcomed the programme, saying that regular vision screenings will help identify children who may be struggling in class due to undiagnosed eye problems and enable timely support.

The screenings will roll out in phases across the city’s government schools over the coming weeks, with detailed schedules being shared with respective school administrations.
