Jaipur, 16 Dec 2025: Dense fog conditions in the national capital led to major disruption in air traffic on Monday, forcing six Delhi-bound flights to be diverted to Jaipur, while a helicopter carrying the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh was also unable to land and had to be redirected, officials confirmed.
According to airport authorities, visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), Delhi, dropped sharply due to heavy fog, making it unsafe for multiple aircraft to land. As a result, flights originating from cities including Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad were diverted to Jaipur International Airport as an alternate landing destination.
In a related incident, a helicopter carrying the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s son was scheduled to land in Delhi but could not do so due to adverse weather conditions. The helicopter remained airborne for some time before being diverted to Agra as a precautionary measure.
Jaipur airport officials said all diverted flights landed safely and passengers were provided necessary assistance. Some flights resumed their onward journey once weather conditions improved, while others faced delays due to crew duty limitations and air traffic congestion.
Fog conditions have been severely impacting winter air operations across North India, with airlines issuing travel advisories and urging passengers to check flight status before heading to airports. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also advised airlines to follow low-visibility operation protocols strictly during the fog season.
Meanwhile, meteorological officials said dense fog is expected to persist over Delhi-NCR and adjoining regions for the next few days, potentially leading to further disruptions in flight and rail services.
Passengers have been advised to remain in contact with airlines and allow additional travel time during early morning and late-night hours.
