Dense Fog and Severe Cold Grip Rajasthan, Zero Visibility Disrupts Travel and Daily Life

Jaipur, January 7, 2026: Rajasthan continues to reel under dense fog and a severe cold wave, causing major disruptions to life and transportation across the state, officials and residents reported on Wednesday.

Cold Wave in Jaipur

Thick morning fog reduced visibility to near zero in many cities including Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur, making even nearby buildings barely visible and prompting caution among commuters. Locals were seen struggling with reduced visibility while early-morning road travel became hazardous.

At Jaipur International Airport, flight operations were significantly affected with multiple flights cancelled or delayed due to near-zero runway visibility. Similar issues were reported at Udaipur’s Maharana Pratap Airport, where at least one flight was cancelled and several others delayed.

Rail services were also hit hard. Due to heavy fog, several trains were delayed by hours, including long-distance services such as the Bhopal–Jodhpur and Marudhar Express trains.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the cold wave and dense fog are likely to persist for the next few days, with temperatures remaining well below normal for this time of year. Schools up to Class 8 have been closed in over 20 districts as a precautionary measure.

Residents reported spending more time indoors, wrapped in blankets to battle the biting cold, while the fog blurred usual cityscapes and made daily routines more challenging.

The weather department has urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on highways and urged the public to stay updated on weather developments as the state grapples with ongoing winter extremes.
