Dense Fog Engulfs Rajasthan as Cold Conditions Persist Across State

Jaipur, 22 Dec 2025: Rajasthan woke up to widespread dense fog and continued cold weather this week, with several districts reporting very low visibility and chilly temperatures as the winter season takes firm hold across the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense fog has blanketed large areas of Rajasthan, sharply reducing visibility on early morning roads and national highways. In many parts, visibility dipped to below 20 metres, disrupting morning traffic and daily routines for commuters and residents alike.

The foggy conditions come amid colder-than-normal weather, with both daytime and nighttime temperatures remaining low across several districts. In eastern Rajasthan, including Sikar and Fatehpur, the mercury plunged to as low as 5.4°C and 5.8°C respectively on Friday night, while the state capital, Jaipur, recorded a minimum temperature of around 10.8°C. Nearby cities such as Alwar, Karauli, and Dausa also experienced temperatures close to the 6–7°C mark.

In smaller towns and rural stretches, the fog’s impact has been even more pronounced. Local weather reports confirm that dense fog persisted in districts such as Dholpur and Dausa, prompting authorities to urge drivers to use fog lights and maintain slow speeds on highways due to significantly restricted visibility.

Impact on Daily Life and Travel

The dense fog has affected daily commute times, with motorists relying on fog lamps during early hours. School and office goers have reported longer travel times and difficulty navigating busy roads. The IMD has warned that these conditions could continue over the next few days, especially during early mornings and late nights.

Meanwhile, the overall weather pattern in the region remains dominated by a western disturbance, which has contributed to persistent cloud cover, fog formation, and a slow dip in daytime temperatures. While night temperatures have risen somewhat due to cloud insulation, daytime highs have stayed below 20°C in many areas unusually low for this time of year in parts of the state.

Precautionary Advisory

Officials have appealed to the public to take precautionary measures during periods of low visibility. Commuters are advised to drive carefully, use fog lights, and maintain safe distances between vehicles. Residents, especially the elderly and children, are being urged to stay warm and limit exposure to early morning cold.

With fog predicted to persist and chilly weather likely to continue, Rajasthan remains on alert as the state experiences its typical winter challenges compounded this year by stubborn fog cover that is affecting both travel and outdoor activities.
