Former Rajasthan DGP Navdeep Singh Sparks Controversy at Public Event in Jaipur

Jaipur, 28 Dec 2025: A former Director General of Police (DGP) in Rajasthan, Navdeep Singh, was involved in a heated altercation with members of the public during a Paushwada programme in the Khati Pura area of Jaipur on Saturday, officials and eyewitnesses said.

The incident occurred when a gathering was underway as part of the traditional festival celebrations. According to multiple accounts, Singh, who retired from the Rajasthan police service, got into a dispute with attendees, which escalated when he allegedly pulled out a pistol following an argument with a crowd that had gathered around him and his driver.

Eyewitnesses reported that the commotion began after Singh and his driver were approached by members of the public, leading to a verbal exchange that quickly intensified. In a startling moment during the dispute, the retired police official was seen displaying a firearm, prompting immediate concern among onlookers. Police were summoned to the scene to defuse tensions and manage the situation.

Authorities said that once law enforcement arrived, the matter was brought under control, and Singh subsequently visited the local police station to register a complaint. However, sources at the station indicated that the formal process was complicated after the driver refused to sign a complaint against those involved, leading to uncertainty about the next steps in the case.

The exact reasons for the dispute remain under investigation, and police have not confirmed whether any charges have been registered as of yet. Officials are reviewing statements from both sides and are expected to conduct further inquiry into the conduct displayed during the altercation.

Navdeep Singh, who served as a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and held the position of DGP before retirement, has been involved in previous controversies and legal matters, according to several past reports.

Local residents and political observers expressed concern over the incident, noting that public figures and former officials are expected to maintain decorum, especially at community events. Law enforcement agencies in Jaipur have reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and said they would take appropriate action once investigations are completed.
