Jaipur, 30 November: In a harrowing incident late Friday night, a couple in a village under the Bandolav area of Dudu Tehsil (around 50 km from Jaipur) were allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire by members of the girl’s family, police said. The severely wounded couple is now admitted at SMS Hospital and is fighting for their lives.
According to investigators, the victims a 32-year-old woman and a man had reportedly been meeting secretly in a field. Late Friday night, relatives of the woman, angered by the relationship, confronted the pair, poured petrol on them, and set them ablaze. Onlookers rushed to their rescue, extinguishing the flames and immediately calling the police.
Both victims suffered severe burns the man reportedly has 60 % burn injuries and the woman about 30–40 %. After first aid at a local health centre, they were referred to SMS Hospital due to the critical nature of their injuries.
Police from the local station responded swiftly, cordoning off the scene and registering a case under sections including attempt to murder (IPC 307). An FSL team collected crucial evidence from the site. So far, three suspects reportedly relatives of the woman have been detained for questioning, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend all involved.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Bandolav and nearby villages, evoking fear and anger among residents. Community members and human rights observers have condemned the brutal act, calling it a grave crime that reflects deep-rooted social prejudices.
Authorities have assured a thorough investigation and pledged strict action once the investigation concludes. Meanwhile, the community has demanded increased vigilance, social counselling, and protection for young couples in similar situations to prevent such tragic events.
