Jaipur, January 6, 2026: Schools across Jaipur and several districts in Rajasthan have announced extended winter holidays in view of an intensifying cold wave and dense fog conditions, disrupting regular academic schedules and prompting administrative action to ensure student safety. Similar school closures have also been implemented in neighbouring states.

Schools in Jaipur Closed Through Early January
The Jaipur district administration has ordered the closure of schools for students up to Class 8 as a precautionary measure amid dropping temperatures and weather advisories issued by the Meteorological Department. Government, aided and private schools in Jaipur will remain shut for different age groups, students from pre-primary to Class 5 will be on holiday from January 6 to January 10, 2026, while those in Classes 6 to 8 will remain off-campus from January 6 to January 8, 2026.
Teachers and non-teaching staff, however, are expected to attend their duties as usual, and examinations scheduled during this period will continue as planned, according to official orders. School authorities have been instructed to take necessary safety precautions during remaining academic activities.
Cold Wave Causes Widespread Disruption Across Rajasthan
The extreme cold has not been confined to Jaipur alone, district officials across at least 20 districts in Rajasthan have announced closures or adjusted schedules for schools, especially for younger students, to shield them from biting temperatures and poor visibility due to dense fog. Districts affected include Sikar, Jhalawar, Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Ajmer, and Bharatpur among others, with holiday durations varying based on local weather severity.
Rajasthan’s Meteorological Department has forecast persistent cold conditions over the coming days, with some regions under a Yellow Alert for intense cold and dense fog, further raising concerns for outdoor travel and school attendance.
Other States Also Report School Closures
The impact of the cold wave is being felt across northern and eastern India. In Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that all educational institutions, from primary to higher secondary, will remain closed from January 6 to January 10, 2026 to safeguard students from the prevailing extreme cold. This order covers government, government-aided and private schools.
Meanwhile, several states including Jharkhand and Punjab have also implemented school closures or extended winter holidays in response to similar weather threats. Jharkhand ordered closures across all classes until January 8, while Punjab extended winter holidays through January 7 amid dense fog and cold conditions.
Parents Urged to Stay Informed
With weather conditions remaining unpredictable, authorities are advising parents to regularly check updates from local administrations and school officials for the latest information on reopening schedules. Continued vigilance is recommended as further extensions may be announced if the cold wave persists.
