Jaipur Sees Major Voter List Overhaul; Over 5.3 Lakh Names Dropped in Draft Roll

Jaipur, 17 Dec 2025: A sweeping revision of the electoral rolls in Jaipur district has led to the removal of more than 5.36 lakh names from the draft voter list following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI), officials said on Wednesday.

Under the SIR part of a nationwide effort to update and clean electoral rolls the draft list released on Tuesday shows that approximately one in nine registered voters in Jaipur has been excluded from the draft electoral list across 17 Assembly constituencies.

According to Deputy District Election Officer Meghraj Meena, the deletions include individuals who are deceased, permanently relocated, absent during enumeration, or duplicate registrants in multiple locations. Officials detailed that among the names removed, tens of thousands were adjusted due to migration and unmatched entries in the existing records.

To ensure better electoral access, authorities have reorganised polling infrastructure by adding 746 new polling stations, bringing the district total to 5,048 stations, with no single station serving more than 1,200 voters.

Several constituencies were impacted unevenly by the deletions. For instance, Civil Lines recorded some of the highest reductions, while other areas saw comparatively smaller declines in electors.

The SIR has also identified a significant number of unmapped voters those whose records could not be matched to existing data who must now submit prescribed documentation to prove their eligibility for inclusion.

The Election Commission has opened a claims and objections window until January 15, 2026, during which affected voters and political parties can raise concerns or seek inclusion in the final voter list ahead of upcoming elections. Detailed instructions for submitting claims, objections, and new registrations (including Form-6) have been issued by district officials.

This revision in Jaipur is part of a broader SIR initiative across Rajasthan and other states, where millions of names have been deleted due to outdated information, deaths, migration, or duplicate registrations. State election officials continue to encourage all eligible residents to verify their names on the draft list and complete necessary formalities before the deadline.
