Jaipur: In a major step towards improving urban mobility, the Rajasthan government and Jaipur traffic authorities have rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan aimed at reducing congestion, improving road safety, and streamlining vehicle movement across the city.
The new strategy includes one-way traffic corridors, signal-free road projects, enhanced surveillance, and infrastructure upgrades, marking one of the most significant traffic reforms in Jaipur in recent years.
One-Way Circular Traffic System Planned
As part of the new initiative, Jaipur Police is planning to introduce a circular traffic movement system on key stretches of Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Marg and Jhalana Bypass Road.
Selected portions of these busy roads will be converted into one-way corridors starting September, with the aim of reducing congestion and ensuring smoother traffic flow, especially during upcoming infrastructure work.
Officials believe this move will help minimize bottlenecks and improve travel time for daily commuters.
Signal-Free Corridors and Road Improvements
Authorities are also working on making key roads signal-free by redesigning intersections and adding U-turn points.
Plans include:
- Construction of 17 new U-turns
- Redesigning major junctions
- Improving pedestrian crossings
- Enhancing road safety near schools and busy areas
These measures are expected to reduce waiting time at signals and improve overall traffic discipline.
Smart Traffic Management and Surveillance
The government is focusing on technology-driven traffic management to better handle congestion.
Key initiatives include:
- Increased deployment of traffic police personnel
- Expansion of CCTV surveillance systems
- Use of drones and real-time monitoring tools
- Improved signal timing systems
These changes aim to provide real-time traffic updates and faster response to congestion across the city.
Infrastructure Boost Under Long-Term Mobility Plan
The traffic reforms are part of Jaipur’s broader Comprehensive Mobility Plan, which focuses on long-term infrastructure development.
Key proposals include:
- Construction of 14 flyovers and elevated roads
- Development of railway overbridges and underpasses
- Widening of nearly 86 km of roads
Major routes like JLN Marg and Jhalana Bypass are expected to see significant upgrades under this plan.
Additionally, projects like new culverts and road connectivity improvements are being planned to reduce travel distances and ease pressure on busy corridors.
Crackdown on Encroachments and Parking Issues
Authorities are also focusing on removal of encroachments and better parking management, which have been major contributors to traffic congestion in Jaipur.
Efforts include:
- Clearing illegal roadside vendors
- Organizing parking zones
- Ensuring smooth movement on service lanes
Aim: Safer and Faster Commute
Officials stated that the overall goal of the initiative is to create a more efficient, safer, and commuter-friendly traffic system in Jaipur.
With rapid urban growth and increasing vehicle numbers, these reforms are expected to:
- Reduce travel time
- Improve road safety
- Enhance commuter experience
- Support future infrastructure expansion
What This Means for Jaipur Residents
If implemented effectively, the new traffic plan could significantly transform daily commuting in Jaipur. However, authorities also emphasized the need for public cooperation, especially in following traffic rules and adapting to new road systems.
