Jaipur, 2 Dec 2025: In a surprise early-morning drive on Monday, a joint team of mobile magistrates, RTO officials and traffic police in Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RALSA) conducted spot checks of school buses, vans and auto-rickshaws across multiple areas in Jaipur including New Sanganer Road, Mansarovar and Bani Park.
The inspection, led by secretaries of District Legal Services Authority (DLSA-I) and (DLSA-II), judges Deependra Mathur and Pallavi Sharma, assessed vehicles on 21 mandatory safety parameters. Shockingly, the majority of vehicles failed to meet even basic norms.
Among the glaring violations: only one or two vehicles had a first-aid kit, none had GPS tracking, and most lacked proper emergency exits. Support staff mandatory to help children board and de-board were missing from many. Drivers were often without proper license, uniform or required documents, and several vehicles lacked the mandated yellow “school transport” identification stripes.
The drive didn’t just end with warnings. Challans were issued on the spot particularly outside Modern Public School in Mansarovar. A van belonging to Children’s Academy was seized for having completed its 15-year service lifespan; another from Maheshwari Public School was seized for overloading beyond seating capacity.
Authorities said a detailed report of the inspection will be submitted to RALSA. Going forward, district officials have been tasked with inspecting school transport vehicles at least three times a year, with periodic monthly reports due by the 15th of each month with further drives planned to reinforce child-safety compliance.
What this means for parents and schools
- School authorities will now face tighter enforcement of safety norms.
- Parents are advised to ensure that vehicles ferrying their children meet required safety standards including GPS tracking, first-aid kits, emergency exits and proper documentation.
- The move signals a renewed focus on child safety in school transport, following concern about repeated safety lapses.
