Jaipur, 30 Dec 2025: As 2025 draws to a close, weather officials have warned that Rajasthan is likely to welcome the New Year with a mix of winter rains, chilly winds and dense fog, potentially disrupting year-end plans and outdoor events in several parts of the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a Western Disturbance is set to become active on December 31 and January 1, bringing light rainfall or drizzle to parts of northern and western Rajasthan on New Year’s Eve and the first day of 2026.
Rain and Cloudy Conditions Forecast
The forecast indicates that cloudy skies with light rain or drizzle are likely over districts in the Bikaner division and the Shekhawati region, including Bikaner, Churu, Sikar, Jhunjhunu and surrounding areas on December 31 and January 1.
IMD officials pointed out that the incoming weather system could intensify cold winds across the state, adding to the existing winter chill and lowering night temperatures further.
Cold Winds and Persistent Fog Ahead
Along with scattered showers, weather experts also predict that dense fog is likely to persist in many areas of Rajasthan during the first week of January, reducing visibility and impacting travel on major roads and rail routes.
Night temperatures across the state have already dropped sharply, with many cities reporting single-digit minimums in recent days, a sign that cold conditions could continue into early January.
Impact on New Year’s Eve Plans
The possibility of winter rains and fog has raised concerns among organisers of 31 December outdoor programmes, as these conditions may disrupt scheduled events and public gatherings, particularly in open areas and street celebrations. Weather officials have advised event planners and residents to keep updated on local forecasts and make necessary adjustments to avoid weather-related inconveniences.
Precautions and Public Advisory
Authorities have urged citizens to take precautions against cold winds and reduced visibility due to fog, especially for motorists and long-distance travellers. Commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and use fog lights where necessary.
Farmers are also expected to benefit from the winter rain, as the rainfall may aid the standing rabi crops, although the accompanying drop in temperature could make conditions harsher in some regions.
