Newborn Girl Found Wrapped in Cloth Outside Cremation Ground in Jaipur

Jaipur, 22 November: A newborn girl, estimated to be eight to ten days old, was found abandoned and wrapped in a cloth outside the Chandpole cremation ground in Jaipur on Thursday afternoon.

The alarm was raised around 2:45 pm when passers-by heard faint cries near the crematorium. The baby was located by the Traffic Police, who immediately contacted the Bani Park Police Station.

On arrival, officers found the infant wrapped in a shawl (“odhni”) and lying alone in the vicinity of the cremation ground. She was quickly taken into protective custody and medical attention was arranged. Officials believe the newborn may be from a rural background, as indicated by the presence of a hospital clipping on her umbilical cord.

Police have commenced an investigation into the abandonment, reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras and questioning residents around the monument. The baby has since been handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for care and further legal procedures.

This incident has once again stirred public concern over the plight of vulnerable newborns and female infants in the region. Community leaders and welfare organisations are urging greater vigilance, stronger awareness campaigns and more robust support systems for expecting mothers in distress.

Authorities have appealed to anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and help identify the parent(s) or guardian(s) who left the baby behind.
