Jaipur, 26 Dec 2025: A severe cold wave continues to grip large parts of Rajasthan, bringing bone-chilling temperatures, dense fog and icy northwesterly winds as the winter season intensifies across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued cold wave and fog alerts for several districts, urging residents to exercise caution amid plummeting mercury levels.

According to the latest weather data, Fatehpur in Sikar district recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 1.6 °C, making it the coldest spot in the state, followed by Nagaur at 1.9 °C. Other districts also witnessed single-digit lows, with Lunkaransar (Bikaner) at 3.5 °C, Dausa at 4.4 °C, Churu at 4.9 °C and Alwar at 5 °C. In the state capital Jaipur, the mercury dipped to 8.8 °C as residents battled the biting chill.
The IMD has issued cold wave warnings for several districts across both eastern and western Rajasthan, with forecasts indicating that low temperatures are likely to persist over the next few days. Official alerts also highlight the likelihood of dense fog, especially in the early mornings and late nights, which could disrupt road travel and reduce visibility in many areas.
Weather authorities have attributed the cold surge to icy northwesterly winds sweeping down from the Himalayan region, driving temperatures down significantly across the desert state. Meteorologists have cautioned that night temperatures in some areas could approach freezing point in the coming days, particularly if wind patterns shift further.
Residents have been adjusting to the harsh winter conditions in various ways, with local markets, tea stalls and gathering spots seeing brisk business as people seek warmth amid the chill. In urban and rural pockets alike, bonfires and warm beverages are becoming common sights as communities band together to cope with the cold.
Authorities and health officials have urged vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and people with respiratory ailments to take necessary precautions. Citizens are advised to limit outdoor exposure during peak cold hours, wear adequate winter clothing and ensure that heating arrangements at home are adequate to ward off cold-related health risks.
With the cold wave likely to continue over the next 48–72 hours, the IMD has asked people to stay updated with weather advisories and remain cautious, particularly in fog-prone regions and on major roadways where visibility may be severely restricted.
