Three Shop Roofs Collapse in Jaipur’s Nehru Market; No Injuries Reported

Jaipur, 28 Dec 2025: A startling structural incident late Saturday night saw the roof sections of three shops collapse in the busy Nehru Market area of Jaipur, causing alarm among shopkeepers and nearby residents. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, police and local witnesses confirmed.

The incident occurred between 11 PM and midnight, when the veranda roofs of shops numbered 175, 176 and 177 gave way suddenly. Eye-witnesses said the collapse appeared to result from a weakening of supporting pillars, which may have been strained over time due to age and structural wear.

Residents and traders rushed to the scene after hearing the loud sound of falling debris. Fortunately, the market was largely empty at that hour, and no one was present below the verandas when the roofs caved in, preventing what could have been a tragic outcome.

Local police and civic officials reached the site early Sunday morning. They cordoned off the affected stretch of the market and began preliminary safety inspections to assess the condition of adjacent structures and determine how best to prevent further incidents.

Shop owners in Nehru Market, one of Jaipur’s prominent commercial hubs known for garments, electronics and everyday goods, expressed shock at the collapse. Many called for urgent structural audits of older market areas to ensure public safety and maintain business continuity.

from structural engineers, to identify the cause and recommend reinforcement or renovation work. Officials have urged shopkeepers and visitors to exercise caution around older buildings and verandas while assessments are underway.
