Tragic Road Crash in Jaipur: Speeding SUV Mows Down Biker, Injures Pedestrian; One Dead, Driver Held

Jaipur, January 25, 2026: A devastating road accident in Jaipur on Saturday afternoon has claimed the life of a young motorcyclist and left a pedestrian seriously injured after a speeding SUV lost control and struck them near Jayanti Market Crossing, police said. The horrific incident, which unfolded in the Jalupura area of the city, has sparked renewed concerns over road safety and reckless driving on urban thoroughfares.

According to police, the Mahindra Thar SUV, driven by Manish Kumar, a resident of Fatehpur in Sikar district, was travelling at high speed when it first hit 19-year-old Kulsum, who was walking along the roadside. The force of the impact threw her to the ground, and before the vehicle could be brought under control, it rammed into the motorcycle ridden by 27-year-old Faizan, crushing him under its wheels.

Faizan, a native of Khandela, Sikar, who was living in Jaipur’s Bhatta Basti area while working a private job, died on the spot from his injuries. Kulsum, a student returning home after filling out a college admission form, sustained serious injuries, including a fractured leg and was rushed to Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital, where she remains under treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the SUV did not immediately stop after the collision, and Manish initially fled the scene. He was later traced and detained by police, and the vehicle has been seized as part of the investigation. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine whether excessive speed or loss of vehicle control was the primary cause.

Faizan’s grieving family described him as the sole earning member who supported his parents and sisters, and they are now left in shock and distress over his sudden death. Locals have expressed their anguish on social media and called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly on busy city roads prone to overspeeding vehicles.

The incident comes amid a spate of similar road tragedies in Jaipur in recent days, underlining ongoing challenges related to traffic safety, speeding and pedestrian protection in the rapidly growing urban centre.
