Jaipur, March 29, 2026: Residents of Jaipur are likely to face a temporary disruption in drinking water supply as the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has scheduled maintenance work on the Bisalpur–Jaipur Drinking Water Project. The shutdown began on Saturday evening (March 28) and will impact water supply across the city for nearly two days.
According to PHED officials, pumping operations from the Surajpura pumping station were suspended from 8:00 PM on Saturday to carry out essential repair work on the main pipeline that supplies water from the Bisalpur Dam to Jaipur. The impact of the shutdown will be felt across the city from Sunday morning, when regular water supply will remain suspended in most areas.
Officials said the shutdown was necessary to repair a leakage in the 2,300-mm main pipeline and strengthen the system ahead of the peak summer season. The Bisalpur project is the primary source of drinking water for Jaipur, serving nearly five million residents.
Water Supply Timeline
- March 28 (Saturday): Pumping stopped at Surajpura station from 8 PM.
- March 29 (Sunday): Water supply likely to remain completely shut across Jaipur.
- March 30 (Monday): Supply may remain affected in the morning; restoration efforts will begin later in the day.
- March 31 (Tuesday): Water supply expected to gradually return to normal.
PHED officials stated that the maintenance work is part of the department’s summer contingency plan to ensure smooth and uninterrupted water supply during the peak demand period. In previous years, attempts to draw larger quantities of water from Bisalpur during summer had caused technical issues in the system.
The department has urged residents to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdown period to avoid inconvenience.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan government has also announced a broader summer strategy to strengthen drinking water supply across the state, including additional funds, monitoring systems and infrastructure improvements.
