Five Accused in Assault on CJP Founder Granted Bail, Garlanded After Release in Jaipur

Jaipur, June 19: Five individuals arrested for allegedly assaulting Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke during a protest in Jaipur have been granted bail by a local court, triggering fresh controversy after videos emerged showing the accused being welcomed with garlands following their release.

The accused were taken into custody after an incident at Jaipur’s Shaheed Smarak, where Dipke was allegedly slapped and physically confronted during a public protest organized by the activist group. The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, sparked a political and public debate over freedom of expression, protest rights, and public conduct.

According to reports, the five accused were produced before the competent authority and subsequently granted bail. Following their release, supporters gathered outside the police station and welcomed them with flower garlands. Videos of the reception quickly went viral online, drawing strong reactions from activists and civil society groups.

The visuals have intensified the controversy surrounding the assault, with critics arguing that celebrating individuals accused of attacking a protest leader sends an inappropriate message regarding political violence and public accountability. Supporters of the accused, however, described them as acting out of ideological conviction and expressed solidarity with them after their release.

Dipke and members of the Cockroach Janata Party have condemned both the assault and the subsequent public reception given to the accused. The organization has maintained that the attack was an attempt to intimidate activists and discourage dissenting voices from participating in public discourse.

Police officials stated that legal action was initiated immediately after the incident and that the matter remains subject to investigation and judicial processes. Authorities have urged the public to maintain peace and avoid actions that could further inflame tensions.

The incident has continued to attract national attention, with commentators highlighting broader concerns about political polarization, the safety of activists, and the challenges of ensuring peaceful democratic engagement. The emergence of videos showing the accused being honored after securing bail has added a new dimension to the debate and fueled discussion across social media platforms.

As investigations continue and legal proceedings move forward, the Jaipur incident remains at the center of a wider conversation about public protest, political expression, and the responsibilities of both authorities and citizens in preserving democratic norms.
