Jaipur, April 17, 2026: In a major enforcement action, the Rajasthan Housing Board (RHB) on Thursday carried out a large-scale demolition drive on prime land along the B2 Bypass in Jaipur, following a Rajasthan High Court order in its favour. The land, estimated to be worth around ₹2,200 crore, had been embroiled in legal disputes for over three decades.

Massive Demolition Drive, 15 Bigha Land Reclaimed
The Housing Board used bulldozers to demolish more than 30 illegal constructions and took possession of nearly 15 bigha of land during the operation. Officials said the reclaimed land is part of a larger disputed parcel measuring over 42 bighas.
Authorities also installed official signage on the land, marking it as Housing Board property, and confirmed that the remaining occupied portions will be cleared in phases after due notice to residents.
Stone Pelting, Chaos During Operation
The demolition drive witnessed resistance from local residents, particularly tenants living in the structures. Protesters demanded more time to vacate, and in some instances, stone-pelting was reported, damaging a JCB machine.
Officials initially faced difficulty due to limited police presence, but the situation was brought under control after additional forces arrived later in the evening.
High Court Verdict Triggered Action
The action follows a recent Rajasthan High Court ruling that declared the disputed land to be legally owned by the Rajasthan Housing Board. The court relied on audit reports and investigation findings, stating that no valid housing scheme existed on the land before its acquisition and that earlier approvals were irregular.
The decades-old dispute dates back to claims by private entities, but the court concluded that the land rightfully belongs to the Housing Board, allowing it to take possession and remove encroachments.
Future Plans for Prime Land
According to Housing Board officials, the reclaimed land, located in a prime area of Jaipur, will be developed into residential and commercial projects. The board has indicated that notices will be issued to families still residing on parts of the land, and further action will follow legal procedures.
Background of the Dispute
The land dispute had remained unresolved for nearly 30 years, involving multiple legal proceedings and administrative actions. The High Court’s recent ruling has now cleared the way for the Housing Board to assert control and move ahead with development plans.
