Rajasthan Sizzles Under Severe Heatwave; Temperatures Cross 42°C, Yellow Alert Issued

Jaipur: Rajasthan is reeling under an intense heatwave as temperatures continue to surge across the state, crossing 42°C in several cities and triggering warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to recent reports, the heatwave has intensified significantly, with cities including Jaipur experiencing scorching daytime temperatures and rising discomfort levels. The IMD has cautioned that the prevailing conditions are likely to persist over the coming days, urging residents to take precautions.

Mercury Soars Across State

Western Rajasthan remains the worst affected, with Barmer emerging as one of the hottest locations. Earlier this week, the city recorded temperatures above 41.6°C, while several other regions saw a sharp rise of 3–4 degrees Celsius.

Recent data indicates that temperatures in parts of the state have already touched 42–43°C, with more than 10 cities recording above 40°C.

Heatwave Alert in Multiple Districts

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for districts including Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Sri Ganganagar, warning of heatwave conditions from April 17 onwards. Hot and dry winds have already started sweeping across western Rajasthan, indicating the onset of severe “loo” conditions.

Officials have advised people to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours and to stay hydrated as the risk of heat-related illnesses rises.

Nights Turn Unusually Warm

Adding to the discomfort, night temperatures have also increased significantly across the state. Jaipur and several other cities have recorded some of the warmest nights of the season, with minimum temperatures crossing 28°C.

This has reduced relief during nighttime, forcing residents to endure heat almost round the clock.

Weather Outlook: More Heat Ahead

Meteorological forecasts suggest that the heatwave will continue to intensify over the next 4–5 days, with temperatures expected to rise by another 2–3°C in many regions. In western districts, mercury levels could reach 43–44°C, further worsening conditions.

While some parts of eastern Rajasthan may see brief relief in the form of light rain or thunderstorms, most regions are expected to remain dry and extremely hot.

Impact on Daily Life

The extreme heat has begun affecting normal life across Rajasthan. Roads remain largely deserted during peak hours, and people are limiting outdoor movement due to harsh sunlight and hot winds. Authorities have also issued advisories for vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly.
