Dense Fog Causes Major Flight Disruptions; International Flight Diverted to Jaipur, Several Domestic Services Cancelled

Jaipur, December 17, 2025: Dense winter fog sweeping across northern India on Wednesday morning caused significant disruption to air travel, hitting Jaipur International Airport and several major flight routes. Poor visibility led to last-minute flight cancellations, delays, and at least one international flight being diverted to Jaipur.

The fog forced Flynas international flight XY-896, en route from Dammam to Lucknow, to make an unscheduled landing at Jaipur Airport around 5:25 AM. Due to extremely low visibility in its original destination, the aircraft was diverted as a safety precaution. Passengers remained on board at Jaipur for nearly four hours before conditions improved and the flight was able to continue to Lucknow.

Multiple domestic flights between Delhi and Jaipur were thrown into disarray. Air India Express reportedly cancelled its Delhi–Jaipur and Jaipur–Delhi services at the last minute, citing operational reasons linked to weather conditions, leaving travellers stranded and frustrated.

In addition to the cancellations, several flights from cities such as Jaisalmer, Kolkata, and Bengaluru arrived late in Jaipur due to fog-related hold-ups earlier in their journeys. International services including an Air Arabia flight from Shah Jahan also touched down with delays of approximately 50 minutes.

The disruptions reflect a broader pattern of fog-induced travel chaos across the region this week. Across northern India, airports have reported numerous flight delays, cancellations and diversions as dense early-morning fog persists, greatly reducing runway visibility. Airlines have urged passengers to monitor flight status updates before travelling to airports and to expect potential schedule changes.

Weather officials say that winter fog and low visibility conditions are likely to continue in the coming days, potentially affecting transportation networks and schedules further.
