Jaipur, May 10, 2026: A final-year MBBS student of Sawai Man Singh Medical College was found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a hostel building in Jaipur, with police suspecting suicide. The incident has shocked the medical student community and triggered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The deceased student has been identified as Nitin Yadav (22), a resident of Alwar district in Rajasthan. According to police officials, he was pursuing his final-year MBBS studies at SMS Medical College and had reportedly been preparing for an upcoming forensic medicine examination scheduled on Saturday.
Body Found on Eighth Floor of Hostel
Police said the student was discovered hanging in the stairwell area on the eighth floor of the New RD Hostel building located within the college campus. A security guard reportedly noticed the body early in the morning and informed authorities.
Officials from the forensic team and local police later reached the hostel premises and began an investigation. No suicide note was recovered from the scene. The student’s mobile phone and laptop have been seized for examination.
CCTV Footage Under Investigation
According to preliminary police findings, CCTV footage showed Nitin entering the hostel late at night. Reports suggest he was last seen moving inside the building around 3:15 a.m. However, there were reportedly no CCTV cameras installed on the eighth floor where the incident occurred.
Police are now examining hostel entry records, CCTV footage, and electronic devices to understand the sequence of events leading up to the student’s death.
Family Questions Circumstances of Death
Family members of the student have raised concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to reports, Nitin had been living in rented accommodation near the college campus instead of staying in the hostel permanently.
Relatives reportedly stated that he had not shown signs of distress and was focused on his studies. The family has questioned how he managed to access the postgraduate hostel late at night and whether additional factors may have been involved.
Police Continue Probe
Officials from Jaipur police said the exact reason behind the incident is still unknown and further investigation is underway. Statements from classmates, hostel staff, and close friends are being recorded as part of the inquiry.
The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns surrounding mental health and academic stress among medical students across India.
