Jaipur Suspended Lecturer Dies by Suicide; Family Alleges Harassment, Refuses Body, Protests for Justice

Jaipur, February 6, 2026: A suspended government lecturer, Manohar Lal Bhadu (35), died by suicide on Wednesday evening after allegedly jumping in front of a moving train in Jaipur’s Mahesh Nagar area, sparking protests and serious allegations from his family against investigators from the Rajasthan Police Special Operations Group (SOG).

Jaipur Suspended Lecturer Dies by Suicide

Bhadu, a native of Sanchore in Jalore district, had been under suspension and investigation by the SOG in connection with alleged irregularities and recruitment exam paper-leak cases. His family has strongly denied the charges and claimed that persistent harassment by police drove him to take the extreme step.

According to police, Bhadu’s body was found on railway tracks under the Mahesh Nagar police station limits after the incident. Officials say he left behind a handwritten note that was sent to friends shortly before his death, in which he accused the SOG officers of unfairly implicating him in multiple cases and claimed he was being targeted despite being innocent.

In the purported suicide note, now under examination for authenticity, Bhadu wrote that he was not weak but could no longer endure false accusations, repeated summons for interrogation, and alleged harassment. He is reported to have claimed that officers had even demanded bribes during the probe and that incriminating cases were repeatedly built against him, worsening both his legal troubles and financial strain.

Family Protests Outside Mortuary
On Thursday, Bhadu’s family refused to take possession of his body from the SMS Hospital mortuary, staging a sit-in protest outside the facility. They accused SOG personnel, including officers named in the note, of systemic harassment and demanded strict action against them.

Relatives also demanded substantial compensation, full salary arrears for the period of suspension, and a government job for a family member. According to reports, the family insisted that the authorities register a formal criminal case against the implicated officers and meet their calls for justice before permitting the body to be released for last rites.

The protest drew support from former Rajasthan University Student Union president Nirmal Choudhary, who criticised the administration and said the family was left with no option but to protest in the cold weather due to the government’s “insensitive” response.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
Mahesh Nagar police and higher officials have stated that efforts are ongoing to verify the contents of the note and investigate the circumstances surrounding Bhadu’s death. Law enforcement agencies have yet to comment on the specific allegations against the SOG officers, but have emphasised that the probe into the recruitment irregularities, in which Bhadu’s name appeared on multiple charge sheets, was active.

Authorities reportedly plan to resume discussions with the family to allow a post-mortem and peaceful resolution of the standoff over the body.

The incident has drawn widespread attention and raised questions about the pressures faced by accused individuals in long-running investigations, and whether procedural safeguards are sufficient to protect their dignity and rights.
