Jaipur, April 2, 2026: The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has revised the drinking water supply schedule in parts of Jaipur, including Ajmeri Gate and Jawahar Nagar, while residents in another area of the city have raised serious concerns about contaminated water supply. The developments have triggered public discussion about water management and sanitation in the Rajasthan capital.
Water Supply Timings Revised
According to officials, the water supply schedule in Ajmeri Gate (North) and Jawahar Nagar (South) areas has been changed from April 1. Earlier, residents received water in the morning between 7:15 am and 8:30 am, but the supply will now be provided from 1 pm to 2 pm.
Authorities said the decision was taken after conducting a trial run over several days, which showed that water pressure was significantly better during the afternoon hours. The change is expected to improve distribution and ensure that households that previously faced low pressure receive adequate water.
The revised schedule will affect several localities, including Valmiki Colony, Kaptan Ji Ka Hatha, Ladi Walon Ki Bagichi, Jumma Bazaar and Kadvi Mandi in the Ajmeri Gate area, as well as Central Jail area, Sudamapuri, Agarwal College area and Meena Mohalla in Jawahar Nagar.
Officials have advised residents to adjust their daily routine according to the new timing and store water accordingly.
Residents Protest Contaminated Water
Meanwhile, residents of Sushilpura staged protests after alleging that sewage water had mixed with the drinking water supply in the locality. According to residents, polluted water had been reaching households for nearly five days, raising fears about potential health risks.
Locals also complained that foul-smelling wastewater had been flowing through the streets for almost a month, creating unhygienic conditions and increasing concerns about disease outbreaks.
When local MLA Gopal Sharma visited the area to assess the situation, angry residents surrounded him and demanded immediate action. In a symbolic protest, some residents even asked the MLA to drink the same water that they claimed was being supplied to their homes.
The MLA reportedly refused but assured residents that the issue would be addressed.
Authorities Monitoring the Situation
The water supply in Jaipur is managed by the Jaipur Water Supply and Sewerage Board along with the PHED, which are responsible for maintaining drinking water infrastructure and sanitation services across the city.
Officials said they are reviewing complaints from Sushilpura and investigating the source of contamination to prevent further supply of polluted water. Meanwhile, residents in Ajmeri Gate and Jawahar Nagar are adjusting to the newly announced supply schedule.
Growing Concern Over Urban Water Management
The twin developments have highlighted the broader challenges of water distribution and sanitation in rapidly expanding urban areas like Jaipur. While the revised supply timings are intended to improve water pressure and distribution efficiency, incidents of contaminated water supply have raised questions about infrastructure maintenance and monitoring.
Residents have urged authorities to ensure safe drinking water and take quick action whenever supply disruptions or contamination are reported.
