Rajasthan braces for rain, cold and fog as yellow alerts sound in multiple districts

Jaipur, 28 November: As a new western disturbance sweeps across Rajasthan, the weather has taken a sharp turn bringing rain, dropping temperatures, and yellow-level alerts for several districts including the state capital Jaipur.

Over the past night and early today, light to moderate rainfall began in many parts of Jaipur and neighbouring regions. Skies remained overcast, and chilly winds added to the drop in temperature, prompting locals to experience an abrupt shift from mild to wintry weather.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), yellow alerts have been issued for up to 9–10 districts including Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Dausa, Alwar, and Tonk signalling likely rain or drizzle, gusty winds, and possible dense fog over the next 24-48 hours.

Residents are being warned of a further temperature drop. Meteorologists expect nighttime temperatures to fall by around 3–5 °C in many areas, and a cold wave may set in from early December, especially in northern and eastern Rajasthan regions.

With the onset of “mawath” (pre-winter rains), dense fog is also predicted raising concerns over morning travel safety across fog-prone plains and low-lying zones.

What this means for people:

  • Expect intermittent rainfall and chilly, gusty winds particularly over the next 24-48 hours.
  • Plan accordingly: keep umbrellas, wear warm clothes, and drive carefully if travelling early morning or late night.
  • Stay alert for further weather updates from IMD, especially if fog or sudden cold waves intensify.
