Rajasthan Weather Update: IMD Issues Rain, Thunderstorm and Hail Alerts for Multiple Districts

Jaipur, January 23, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow weather alerts across several districts of Rajasthan on Friday, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms and strong winds as an active weather system affects the state.

Orange and Yellow Alerts in Effect

According to the IMD, 14 districts including Jaipur are under an orange alert for thunderstorm activity, rainfall and hail, while additional districts have been placed under a yellow alert for expected rain and thunderstorms later during the day.

Meteorological officials say this unseasonal weather is due to a western disturbance influencing the region, bringing moisture-laden clouds and an abrupt shift in conditions.

Rainfall, Hail & Strong Winds Reported

Rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds has been reported in parts of western and central Rajasthan. In several areas of Sikar district, hailstorms were observed, while Jaipur witnessed intermittent rainfall with thunder during the early hours.

Officials noted that the weather system caused temperature drops in many regions, intensifying the cold wave conditions typical of this time of year.

Impact on Daily Life and Safety Precautions

The sudden wet spell and strong winds led to reduced visibility in several towns and created slippery conditions on roads, prompting authorities to advise residents to exercise caution while travelling. Farmers have also been urged to protect vulnerable crops and livestock from hail and strong gusts.

While the current system is expected to weaken after today, IMD forecasts indicate the possibility of another active western disturbance bringing further unsettled weather towards January 26–27, including isolated rainfall and wind gusts in parts of Rajasthan.

Looking Ahead

The IMD has warned that after the current spell subsides, dense fog and continued cold conditions may develop in many districts from the weekend onward. Residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts and advisories, especially during early morning and night hours when visibility may be significantly reduced.
