Three Jaipur Policemen, Cafe Owner Arrested for Alleged Extortion; ₹17 Lakh Recovered

Jaipur, January 3, 2026: Three policemen and a café owner were arrested on Saturday on charges of illegal extortion, following an investigation into alleged misconduct and staged threats to extract money from a businessman, police sources said.

The arrested personnel include Head Constable Sanjay Kumar, Constable Ramesh Meena, Constable Mohan Lal, and the café owner, identified as Rajesh Gupta. Authorities recovered approximately ₹17 lakh in cash from their possession during raids conducted in different parts of the city.

According to Jaipur police, the accused allegedly staged a drama to extort money from a local businessman by threatening legal action and coercing him into paying large sums under pressure. The complainant had approached senior police officials, triggering a formal probe by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU).

During the investigation, officers discovered that the accused had repeatedly demanded money from the victim over a period of time. Acting on credible evidence, including recorded conversations and financial trails, the EOU team carried out a coordinated operation leading to the arrests.

A senior police official said, “We found sufficient material suggesting that the policemen, along with the café owner, colluded to extort money from the complainant. Strong action has been taken and further investigation is underway.”

The accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for extortion and criminal conspiracy. They are currently being held for questioning as investigators work to uncover the full extent of the alleged racket.

The development has sparked concern among residents about the misuse of official authority. Police officials, while reaffirming their commitment to upholding the law, emphasized that no one, including law enforcement officials, is above the law and that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.

Investigators are now scanning financial records and communication logs to determine if there are more victims or accomplices linked to the case.
